He is in the FL National Guard and I was in the Army Reserves. We met at AIT at Ft. Leonard Wood and trained as 88 mikes( transportation). We fell in love and after graduating from AIT, I moved to Fl about a month later. He actually came to TN and got me and my belongings. I know it sounds crazy!! Anyways, we’ve lived together for over a year now and we just found out that he’s deploying in July to Al Asad, Iraq. We are trying to figure out what we want to do about support for me because I don’t have close friends here in Fl and all of my family is in TN. His family lives in CT, so I’m going to take care of his things and car. I like that anyways because I’ll feel closer to him in some weird way. So, now I have to make up my mind where I want to live? I ended up with some thyroid problems and I got a discharge, so I know that I’m not going anywhere. If I decide to move back to TN, we will have to move around the end of April because he has training in May-when he deploys.

He throws hints around about getting engaged before he leaves, so that makes me happy. I haven’t finished school yet, so marriage is not an option right now, however, I can def see myself with him. He’s been gone for training for 6 days and I’m starting to think about things. What am I going to do with myself? Am I going to be strong enough for myself and for him? How do I ignore to tell him how miserable I am without him when he calls for a year? How much will he be able to call or communicate? I’m getting Tshirts, bracelets, coffee mugs that show my support for him, but I feel like I should do more. I just need to know how to be the best girlfriend or fiance while he’s gone. What should I send him? I thought about a scrapbook? Please help?

It sounds like this will be a tough and testing time for you both. I hope it all works out for you.

I think a scraobook would be a lovely idea as they can help a person feel closer to someone they care about and help them remember good times when they are going through not-so-good times. Have you ever made one? You can buy scrapbooks and kits from scrapbooking stores (I think you would have a Michael’s near you maybe?) and also find kits to help you decorate your pages with matching papers and embellishments.

I have a website about paper crafting and have written some ideas aout how to make scrapbooks and the tools you could use etc, if you would like to browse around there for ideas:

http://www.papercraftcentral.com/scrapbooking.html

Also, SplitCoastStampers has wonderful ideas for scrapbooks too:

http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/

Scroll down to Scrapbook Pages and you will find lots of ideas.

All the very best.

I was also wondering if I can also put classes taken on a college allpication if they were not accredited?I can also croquet, sew, embroider, and scrapbook a little. I;m really good at scrapbooking though.I have to go to a Christian private school. Will this effesct my chances of getting in?This is wha the school website says under accredited:Chisholm Trail Academy is accredited by the Accrediting Association of Seventh-day Adventist Schools, Colleges and Universities which is a recognized member of the National Council for Private School Accreditation and the Texas Private School Commission and is recognized as accredited by the Texas Education Agency.Does this mean I can only go to a college in Texas?Or is it possible for me to go to an ivy league? My gpa will be atleast a 3.8 or higher.and my SAT about 1900. I will also take the ACT and I do pretty good on those sort of things.

i no how to spell im in a hurry!

If your schools is accredited by an agency the state recognizes, any school in the country will accept your credits. Although that’s really something you should have checked 4 years ago.

Your class list looks pretty typical. We can’t tell you anything about where you’ll get in with knowing GPA, SAT scores, and class standing. The Ivies turn down a lot more people than they take, including many valedictorians, straight-A students, and perfect SAT scorers.

If you took classes in those other things you mentioned, they’ll already be on your transcript.

Helping Your Kids Get the Most Out of Play

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Helping Your Kids Get the Most Out of Play Childhood as we know it is over and children of future generations could enter adulthood lacking vital life and social skills because of a lack of ‘free’ play, according to a study released by Persil.

The global report, which marks the launch of Persil’s Every Child Has The Right campaign, was conducted in conjunction with leading experts in youth development and highlights the erosion of childhood. The report found 85% of UK mums are concerned that children are growing up too quickly and 64% believe children are being deprived of childhood through the lack of free play.

In response to this study, Persil as part of the Every Child Has The Right campaign is launching its Free Play Initiative 2008, a nationwide scheme aimed at helping parents find inspirational ways for their children to express themselves through imaginative, unstructured play. This culminates in the support of Playday, the national annual celebration of children’s right to play, on 6 August 2008.

Did you know?

Free play helps the following areas of children’s development:

- Boosts their imagination and creativity
Improves language and expression
- Helps them stay active and prevents obesity
- Reduces stress
- Helps raise self-confidence
- Increases emotional development and social skills for later on in life

As a guideline it’s recommended that parents should try to make one hour a day of active, ideally outdoor play for all children. They need little structure or encouragement because children are naturally active. They just need the time, permission and the right space.

To help your kids get the most out of their play time, the Free Play Initiative focuses on five areas within play that can help a child’s development – Play, Explore, Create, Imagine and Experiment.

To find out more about the Persil Free Play initiative 2008, Playday 2008 on 6th August, build a scrapbook to document your summer holiday of free play or to find out loads more fun play ideas, visit www.persil.com.

USS McGowan First Crew During World War Two

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Gary and I, while going through Dad’s papers found a weathered and checked photo scrapbook of happier days from the 1940’s when in the Navy and a very young man. Our Dad, Charles Clendenning, passed away on July 6, 2009 and was buried in Riverside’s National Cemetry, Riverside California. His days on the USS McGowan always remained dear to him… right up to the day he left us. Dad married Doris Mae Bowers from East Liverpool Ohio, their hometown, in 1944. They were married for 65 years. Dad… we’ll all miss you, love. Your Family, 3 children, 9 Grand children, 23 Great-Grand children and 2 Great-Great-Grand-children.

M R James 4/4 canon alberics scrapbook

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

“Canon Alberic’s Scrap-Book” is the first story in the first collection of ghost stories published by M. R. James, Ghost Stories of an Antiquary. The volume appeared in 1904, but “Canon Alberic’s Scrap-Book” was written in 1894 and published soon afterwards in the National Review.

The story has a detailed and realistic setting in the tiny decaying cathedral city of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, at the foot of the Pyrenees in southern France. An English tourist spends a day photographing the interior of the cathedral and is encouraged by the sacristan to buy an unusual manuscript volume. This, he concludes, had been created long ago, by cutting up volumes in the old cathedral library, by canon Albéric de Mauléon (an imaginary character, said to be a collateral descendant of the real 16th century bishop Jean de Mauléon). The canon, it transpires, has not relinquished his hold on the volume that he created.
